Fleckney, The Grand Union Canal c.1965

More about this scene
The locks at Fleckney are a part of the descent of the canal from its high point at Foxton into the Soar Valley. The Union Canal Bill was approved by Parliament in 1793, and work began in 1794, reaching Fleckney in 1796. The canal bypasses Fleckney on its eastern side; the photograph looks north east across Second Lock, towards Kibworth bridge and Bridge House, as the waterway winds towards Newton Harcourt and South Wigston.
