More about this scene

The gigantic white 'golf balls' of the Fylingdales Early Warning System were a landmark on the eastern side of the North York Moors National Park for many years, before being replaced in the 1990s with a truncated pyramid which serves the same purpose. This is a view of the Flask Café, which used to stand near the inn of the same name on the A171 Whitby Road, near the caravan park.

Bmews 1962 1965
From 1962-1965, my father who was employed by I.B.M. was assigned to F.R.E. based out of 832nd Airborne Squadron in High Wycombe England. One of his many responsibilities was to service and maintain the computer systems within the BMEWS, Fylingdale Moors, England.

Raf Goldsborough
My name is Geoffrey Powell, My name was changed for family reasons from SAC Geoffrey Pallett, I was stationed at RAF Goldsborough, it was a camp situated at East Barnby but took the name from nearby Goldsborough. I was on a Bomb Disposal squadron and travelled each day to the now RAF Fylingdales to clear un-exploded munitions. Fylingdales Construction
I worked as an electrician on the installation of all the electrical services in conjunction with RCA and others. I lived in a residential caravan at the Flask Inn, on the coast road, with my wife and at that time our two baby sons. Despite over 20 years’ work on the archive, these scans have still not been individually checked and may prove to be damaged, faded, or not of sufficient quality to ever be offered in our full product range. However, if you would particularly like to buy one of these please get in touch quoting the Frith negative number,(s) the town name and size of print you would like to buy. On receipt of your enquiry our archivist will check the scan and advise you if the quality is good enough.

What is an Album?

An album is a way to save a selection of Frith photos, maps and memories that are of interest to you.

Creating an Album enables you to make short lists and then make a final selection from the album. In particular it makes ordering things like calendars much easier - simply create an Album of the 12 photos you like and then use the Album when placng your order - our order process will give you this option.

You can create as many Albums as you want, so perhaps make one for your hometown, where you live now, where your parents live now etc.
