More about this scene
Gawsworth is an interesting name in England - the first element comes from the Welsh word 'gof' meaning a smith or smithy. So we evidently have here a reminder of an early community with both Welsh and English living together. This is something that must have happened all over the country to a greater or lesser degree, but is seldom reflected in our village place-names.
