More about this scene
This view was taken from the cross. Next to Godsell & Sons is Woolworth's, which at the turn of the century was Brinsmead Pianos. If we count four awnings down on the same side of the road, we will just be able to make out Boots. On the left is T Wright, the local tailor, who was first established in the same building in the 19th-century. The street lighting by the chemist was a new innovation, only introduced in 1900 after the generating station opened in Commercial Road.
