More about this scene

When Ascot commemorated the accession of Edward VII by building a new grandstand, the Duke of Richmond responded by building an imposing two-tier grandstand to accommodate 10,000 persons at a cost of £40,000. King Edward VII was a frequent visitor to the course; he was often seen in the Royal Box at the western end of the new grandstand, which was built by 1904.
