Hampsfield Convelasent Home Run By English Electric Company, In Grange Over Sands.
A Memory of Grange-Over-Sands.
My Nan Was Matron of the Hampsfield as a child I would visit with my mum, it was such a beautiful place, the gardens were marvellous to be honest, Hong Kong gardens was my favorite with the Koi Karp, the ferns, when I was very small I thought that no one would be able to see me as I sat under a fern.
About the house the dining room was all wood panelling so beautiful, there was a real wood staircase.
The Kitchens are what you would expect to see in a stately home, very big with a decent sized larder and 2 sinks, a table big enough for staff to sit round.
Before the English Electric Company took it over it was a stately home , complete with small golf course, billiards room in what used to be an attic room, croquet lawn, extensive grounds , a cattle grid that used to scare me silly when I was a small child and had to walk over it, I used to fear that my foot would fall into one of the holes, it never did.
I remember Christmas and huge family gatherings that we used to have, the patients were not there at that time, I used to love it when the patients came as they were very friendly, this all happened to me when I was under the age of 5 and I guess it was so magical that I remember it to this day.
