Chldrens Home In Hanley Swan

A Memory of Great Malvern.

My husband Ronald Jones was in the childrens home The Home of the Good Shepherd in Hanley Swan from approx. 1938 to 1944. He was twelve when he left. He has many happy memories & some sad, of his time there. He particularly remembers the American soldiers stationed nearby & their kindness to the Home boys. He has fond memories of the Master & Matron Mr & Mrs Carr, also Brooksie who worked there. He has lovely memories of Miss Pitt the choir mistress, & his time in the Church choir. Also when he sang in Worcester Cathedral. If there is anybody with any recollections of the Home, or know of anyone who was in the Home at that time, it would be great to share memories!

Hi Winifred, my husband and I look after what was known as Shepherd House (it's now called The Highball Centre) if you and your husband would ever like to visit and look around the old place you would be very welcome. It is now used by groups as a youth hostel, we also have family groups booking for parties, scouts, brownies, faith groups etc. Our email is davenbex@sky.com or you can get in touch with the Birmingham Federation of Youth Clubs who manage the place on behalf of the trustees of Highball. Thanks Beck
