More about this scene
The expansive market place has long been the commercial hub of the town. On market days it echoes Yarmouth's seafaring traditions, the colourful awnings stretching out like waves to the horizon. The glory of Yarmouth is its parish church of St Nicholas, the spire soaring high over the distant roofs. It was badly damaged by bombing in the Second World War. Originally a simple Norman construction, it was enlarged many times and given a neo-Gothic interior after the War, with broad aisles. Fortunately, the town still has one fine historic church - St?George's was built in 1714 by John Price, and has characteristic 18th-century galleries, pulpit and reredos, and a plaster ceiling above the nave.
