More about this scene
Here we see Gunnerside Beck rushing into the Swale. Village life is captured in the streets of the village - the Literary Institute (1877) still stands, now the post office and village hall. The old smithy has been here since 1795 - it is still open, and now also houses a small museum. The King's Head Inn is a focal point, and the Wesleyan Methodist chapel (1866) still dominates the west side of the village.
