Those Were The Days.
A Memory of Hampton.
i am the Tony Williams that used to live in Hatherop road, Infant, Junior, Senior Schools Hampton. i moved to Bristol in 1953, i now live in Frome Somerset. I had lots of good happy memories of Hampton especially going fishing at Hampton Hill by the church, across the river was Hurst Park race course. Catching the ferry boat to go swimming at the Upper Deck open air baths just below Hampton Court Palace.. I still go fishing quite regularly.
My fishing rod was a 6ft bamboo cane pinched from a nursery in Dusty Linden road. Maggots or Gentils were bought from the little shop situated in the short stretch of road sandwiched between the High St and Church St, it is now number 6. The fishing reel was actually a cotton reel, the line was nylon with a catgut hook length, a bent pin hook.
I started work as an Apprentice Shopfitter in Bristol, Parnall and sons ltd.
