From 1959 Gooshays Stanley Wright

A Memory of Harold Hill.

I moved to Harold hill in 58 from shoreditch to Montgomery crescent then to 49 gooshays drive and my sisters Pat,Brenda and Sandra my brother Paul came in 63.I moved to Australia in 1978 with my wife Jacqueline and now live in Perth. WA I have good memories of the hill Mead school and harrowfields .Had lots of friends Ray butler, Les Lewis Allen lane, Clive Jelfs, Linten maiden and Terry Clark to name a few.I worked at the market for pocket money mainly for Ron saint (a real character) I fond memories of my market days. I knew Harold hill so well in the 60s the manor , guys field, air guns and catapult (if my dad knew) he would have knocked my block off .I went on a school trip to Austria in 69 with Mr Gregson and ; 13 other kids we got drunk one night. I swam in the lily pond,fished in the green lake got newts and salamanders from the chemical pond (sold them to the petshop) at hilldene. I love school dinners and sometimes I smell the steak and kidney pudding. I miss jellied eels I played conkers and marbles and cards up the wall I cycled to Southend with a friend I think it was Paul Davy from amersham road.I found a ww2 underground bunker with supplies still inside and a Roman villa (archaeologists were there in the 70s) the bear pub the Morris the Saxon king (my cousin Arthur) kept it going for years. Bonfires 5th of November andmaking ice slides in the playground, getting whacked by the teacher, jumping from the platform of the bus buying 2 fags from the shop at petersfield aniseed balls and humbugs oh jamboree bags good teachers to remember mr Benson,Smoky Jones,mr mac big Bradford (pottery) concerts at harrowfields Yes,black sabbath the albemarle youth club there was a nice copper on the beat Mr white we called him chalky the bike tracks figure 8 the death track the white lady ghost who remembers the threepenny bit house.A mickey from the milkman bazooka bubblegum
