Happy Days - a Memory of Harold Hill.

My family moved from Hackney East London to Dulverton Road Harold Hill in 1951 to 1962. I started my school days in Straight Road school, followed by Bosworth, then London Road school in Romford. When the building of Broadford school was finally completed I went there. I loved that school mainly because I had the most wonderful teacher. Does anyone who went to Broadford remember Mr Lazarus? He loved animals, so our class was more like a zoo. We had hamsters, Guinea pigs, rats and mice in relevant cages round the classroom. Definitely wouldn’t be allowed now, health and safety etc. The smell was unbelievable. I remember being pet monitor and wanting to bring a rat home for the school holidays and my mum saying, I’m not having any rats in my house. I was bitterly disappointed but nothing I could have said or done could have made her change her mind. By the way does anyone remember Miss Charlton the headmistress of Broadford Junior school, always signed her name chic charlton, she wasn’t my favourite!!
