More about this scene

Granted a market charter by William III, Hawes later became a centre for textiles, quarrying and the production of Wensleydale cheese. The outdoor market is still held on a Tuesday, though a Market Hall was opened in 1902. In 1887, an auction mart was established for the sale of livestock; before this, auctions were held in the main street.
