Our Old Shop

A Memory of Hayling Island.

Across the road from the newsagent we had a small shop next to the butchers “creek road stores” that was around 1963-64. Denney,s stores. I now reside in the Netherlands

Wonderfull to see old creek road before all the amusement arcades arrived
I remember by the crossroads of Creek Road and Sandy Point Road a new pub opening. Cannot remember the name. Must have been around 1960.
The pub in Sandy Point Road was the KITTIWAKE. The one there now is not the one I remember being built. There seems to be houses there now. I notice in the bungalow MEON the front door has been moved to the side. I notice the beach club is still there.
I also remember the railway. Especially Langstone Harbour Station by the level crossing. Warm summer evenings and the smell of steam and oil from the engine.
The beach club was nearly destroyed by a storm around 1985/86 and there in place is a newish house
The beach club was ready for a wedding, all the tables were layed and an enourmous wave smashed through the windows
