More about this scene
This main road through the town used to be the Wakefield to Halifax road, originally built by the Romans. Business in the town was not only concentrated on blanket making. Much trade came for the dyeing facilities, especially for one major landowning family, the Beevors. King George and Queen Mary visited the town in May 1918 to thank all the townspeople for their sterling war effort.
