Herons Ghyll Rc School
A Memory of Heron's Ghyll.
It was a real pleasure to read the contribution about a memory of Herons Ghyll Roman Catholic School and I was also happy to see that the contributor felt the same as I do about that wonderful school. When my parents and I moved to Herons Ghyll I was placed at the RC school because it was the only one nearby (my family were Church of England). Most of my memories of my school days are negative, miserable times, but not at Herons Ghyll! These were truly 'happy' days. Miss Monahan (excuse my phonetic spelling!) was the Head Teacher and a lovely person, she had a white poodle and it was a special treat to be able to take the dog for a walk. I enjoyed all the Roman Catholic things like learning the Chatacism and having to cross ourselves if there was a storm and a clap of thunder. I also remember the religious statues placed around the school hall.
I too remember Mrs Goody. To sum up I would just like to say that those, oh too few(!), years are some of the happiest of my whole life and I shall never forget them!
