Born In 1942 Lived In Westbrook Road

A Memory of Heston.

Born in 1942, Lived in Westbrook Road. Attended Heston Infants School, Heston Junior School and Spring Grove Central School. I have lots of memories, but reading other people’s entries has reminded me of names of teachers which were long forgotten.
I went to Heston Methodist Church from a very young age. Later married there in 1963. I remember learning to swim at Heston Baths and used to enjoy playing in Heston Park. Especially loved playing amongst the tree roots of the huge trees, and also looked forward to when the Fair came to the village each May when the first ride was free. Faint memories of a procession, and Charles Branson was part of it one year. I used to go down to the Great West Road and wait to see famous people travelling to London from the Airport. I remember seeing Winston Churchill, Antony Eden, Charles de Gaulle, The Queen and Duke of Edinburgh to name a few. There used to be an open air swimming pool called The Moo Cow where we would spend a whole day. We used to cycle to Osterley Park, or walk there through the cornfields in days before the M4.
I took a course to train as a Dental Nurse at Chiswick Polytechnic and took my exam at The Eastman Dental Hospital in London. My first job was at a dental surgery at Lampton, followed by a surgery in Sutton Hall Lane for two Dental Surgeons: Ian and Bryan Hauldren until I left to have my family in 1965. We moved to Suffolk where I had my second child in 1967. Lots has happened since then and I am now a happily retired Grandmother and Great Grandmother living in Dorset. I have been back - several years ago, but sad to say, it hardly resembles the memories I have of those days gone by.
My name is Carol Gaches nee Smith If anyone remembers me it would be lovely to hear from you.
