More about this scene

Holkham Hall was built in the 18th century by Thomas Coke, Earl of Leicester to a design by Palladio. The huge building is set in a park of over 3,000 acres, which on certain days in the summer are opened to the public. This picture shows the south front with its fine portico with an entablature supported by eight Corinthian columns. In front of it is a small covered stall set up for a local charitable event. Within the entrance hall are more beautiful columns and statues. One statue is of Diana, and is said to be one of the best examples of classical drapery in existence.
