Swmming In Hounslow Lynne Lowe Nee Barnett

A Memory of Hounslow.

I attended Chatsworth and then Twickenham County ,was a member of Hounslow swimming club . As Hounslow Baths were closed in the winter months the club used Heston Baths and we always stopped at Rossi’s in Lampton Road on the way home. The best ice cream in the world. I too remember Edmunds but was there a shop called Abernathys that sold sports wear?
I remember a hairdressers in Bell Rd called D’angie? And a fab chip shop at the end of Bell Alley.
I remember C and A opening at the bus garage end of the High St, the Red Lion ,half way up the High Street, where we had Saturday lunch after shopping.
The Woolworths near The Bell that sold everything, and M and S just up from the Scotch Wool Shop on the corner of Treaty Rd, that sold St. Micheal and St Margret children’s wear!
When we were about 13 a group of us from the Hounslow swimming club and Isleworth Penguins used to meet on Saturday mornings and cycle to Staines, towing canoes, stopping on the grass verge just before Staines to listen to the Number One Record on a small transistor radio.

My sister had her wedding reception in The Red Lion in 1981. We all thought it was a very posh do! And in preparation, we all had our hair done in the hairdressers in Bell Road. I don't recall the name of it, I expect you're correct. I had forgotten that, thank you for reminding me. I always thought Woolworth did Ladybird children's wear? And St. Michael's was from Marks and Spencer? I may be wrong, but just thinking back to the labels on the vests and pyjamas we were given for Christmas presents when we were small.
Beg your pardon, you said M and S did St. Michael and St. Margaret, silly me!
