Born in Colombo Road in 1937. Remember the doodle bugs, air aid shelters, Christchurch School, Dane Secondary (even know the school song word for word). The former Ron Pakeham (spelling?) owned one of the stores in Pioneer Market and sub-let half (and eventually all) that store to Redbridge Photographic, where I worked some evenings and Saturdays whilst at school and later college. I lived in Ilford Lane when this happened. We heard fire appliances going past most of the night as I believe they were bringing in water tankers from as far as Tilbury.
