Ipswich, Waiting To Enter The Docks 1921

More about this scene
Ipswich has age-old seafaring associations. Defoe records that he saw 'perhaps two hundred sail of ships' lying by the town during the winter months, 'as safe as in a wet dock'. For centuries cloth was exported to the continent, and later, so was iron and coal. The waterfront is crowded with huge warehouses and granaries. Here we see barges clamouring at the lock gates.
