More about this scene
Placed beside the Alfred East Gallery, the memorial faces Northampton Road, still tree-lined in 1922. The names of the fallen are on plaques built into the gallery wall to the right of the obelisk, which simply states: 'Their name liveth for evermore'. Between the memorial and the gallery the end of the George Hotel is visible. This became Piccadilly Buildings in 1924.

War Memorials
A special selection of photographs from our Archive of the War Memorials that connect us with those who fought and perished in the conflicts that have shaped the world we live in today. "They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old: Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning, We will remember them."- Laurence Binyon, For The Fallen
