More about this scene
At Knaresborough the river scenery is magnificent. The waters glide under the noble railway viaduct with its lofty arches and embattled parapet. The picturesque gardens of the houses on the hillside rise in tiers over the rocky cliffs, and flights of steps climb up into the streets of the town from the river below. Punts and skiffs throng the water. There was once a thriving linen trade here, and the bolts of cloth were shipped out through the tiny port of Boroughbridge.
