More about this scene

The arrival of the railway in 1866 gave this market town a boost, and it rapidly developed to serve a large hinterland. In the past, this part of the street was packed with horses for the annual horse fair, Ffair Dalis, which was held in early May. This view shows a wide range of shops including a jeweller, an optician, a chemist, a shoe shop, and several cafes and inns.

A Selection of Memories from Lampeter

For many years now, we've been inviting visitors to our website to add their own memories to share their experiences of life as it was, prompted by the photographs in our archive. Here are some from Lampeter

Sparked a Memory for you?

If this has sparked a memory, why not share it here?

MY BROTHER AND I WERE EVACUATED TO LAMPETER IN JULY OF 1944 COMING FROM LONDON AS OUR HOUSE WAS BOMBED. WE WERE TAKEN IN BY MARY AND JOHN POWELL IN "BARLEY MOW".  EVEN THOUGH THESE WERE TRYING TIMES FOR OUR PARENTS, IT WAS THE HAPPIEST TIME OF MY CHILDHOOD. AUDREY [LATTER] VOELKER
