More about this scene

The red sandstone ruins of Lanercost Priory stand above the River Irthing near Brampton. The priory was founded in 1166 for the Augustinian Order, and building continued for about 50 years, constantly interrupted by raids by Scots. The nave of the priory is now the parish church for the tiny village, and is dedicated to St Mary Magdelene.
