More about this scene

After the First World War, there were plans to divide Westley Heights into 231 small plots of land and offer them for development. There was a public outcry, however, and the County Council bought the land as Open Space in 1932. Westley, or West Lee, was once a parish in its own right (Lee Chapel being 'East Lee'). Its church is thought to have stood somewhere in the vicinity of Westley Hall.

Berry Lane
My name is Peter Martin i was born and brought up in Berry Lane between Samuel and Emanuel roads. I was born in Billericay hospital on the 11th May 1952 i attended langdon Hills Primary and then Laindon High Road. I remember Mr Foy in the post office, Mr Lucas in the toy/general stores and two ladies who ran the green grocers and then the bike shop on the corner of Heathleigh Drive. Joan's Nostalgia Trip
I was born in Berry Lane Langdon Hills in 1948. I went to the primary school in the High Road and later to Laindon High Road Secondary School. I rmember so much about the town of Laindon - the shop names - Jack Lagdon the butcher, Tommy Cole the Fishmonger, Cisters corner for fruit and veg, Careys the builders, Morrisses the outfitters with the mmoney thing that went all round the store, Parkinsons the ...see more

Well Green Cottage
My husbands family were in Langdon Hills as early as 1797 when John Bacon married Sarah Graylin at the old church Langdon Hills.  The family had many occupations, thatcher, bailiff, agricultural labourer etc.  They eventually settled in Well Green Cottage as was in the family up to 1950s. Despite over 20 years’ work on the archive, these scans have still not been individually checked and may prove to be damaged, faded, or not of sufficient quality to ever be offered in our full product range. However, if you would particularly like to buy one of these please get in touch quoting the Frith negative number,(s) the town name and size of print you would like to buy. On receipt of your enquiry our archivist will check the scan and advise you if the quality is good enough.

What is an Album?

An album is a way to save a selection of Frith photos, maps and memories that are of interest to you.

Creating an Album enables you to make short lists and then make a final selection from the album. In particular it makes ordering things like calendars much easier - simply create an Album of the 12 photos you like and then use the Album when placng your order - our order process will give you this option.

You can create as many Albums as you want, so perhaps make one for your hometown, where you live now, where your parents live now etc.
