Leatherhead, Bridge Street c.1955

More about this scene
We are looking up Bridge Street past the North Street junction. The streetscape is dominated by the former Burton's building, an urban interloper of 1939 with its giant Ionic pilasters supporting a heavy cornice. This is something of a contrast to the mock-Tudor bank with its three storeys of timber-framing, now the Woolwich. Further downhill and behind the cameraman is the Running Horse pub, an important 14th-century building, and then the bridge over the Mole.
