Hove To Holidays

A Memory of Lee-on-the-Solent.

My maternal grandparents ran a hotel/tea rooms in the High st called “Hove to”. I fondly remember our family visits 3 or 4 times a year (we lived in Rutland), a long drive in those days.
I am 62 now and we must have visited from approx 1962 to 1968.
I remember having measles while staying there once and I had to lie in a dark room all day when everyone else was out having fun.
They must have been there for at least 5 years. I vividly remember Lee tower, and the amusement arcade. I used to love the open air pool! We and my brothers had summer holidays and Christmas’s there. It was very exciting.
My grandparents were called Edna and Alfred Hirst. They are long gone, as is the Hove to, sadly knocked down in the name of development.
If anyone remembers them I would love to know.
