Such a peaceful setting could never be associated with warfare … but Leintwardine was once the home of Sir Banastre Tarleton who fought in the American War of Independence and whose reputation has recently been torn to shreds (unfairly in my opinion) in the film, The Patriot, starring Mel Gibson.
