Once the cliff paths around Littleham were used by coastguards, who were on constant watch for smuggling activities. Now the paths are part of the South West Coastal Footpath, and lead to Exmouth in one direction and the neighbouring resort of Budleigh Salterton in the other.

We camped at Littleham, with only my immediate family in the farmer's field. We collected straw from the farmer, and stuffed our palliasses for beds. The straw was returned to the barn when we left. Each morning my sister and I went up to the farmhouse to collect milk. Mother cooked "proper" meals on a petrol cooker and a Primus stove.
