Our Life At Llangwstenin Hall 1983 1986

A Memory of Llangwstenin Hall.

When we moved here in the summer of ‘83, we were so enchanted with the hall and grounds that even included a gaggle of geese in the adjoining field. They were great ‘guard dogs’ so to speak, as we never had any interlopers or attempted break ins. Sadly, we didn’t keep the geese as they needed a lot of maintenance, but I did miss them when they went.

The hall was approached by a dual hairpin bend in the drive arriving at a gravel landing in front of the hall with a blue sundial on the exterior. A grand castle-like door on entry. There was dark oak wood panelling from the hallway to the main living room with a pale oak panelling. We had a 3/4 size snooker table in there. A lovely room indeed. The dining room had a long dark wood table. It was like eating in another bygone century with many Christmas and Easter lunches and dinners there. My late father was a great storyteller and often hosted with great aplomb.

I won’t harp on about the hall inside but what I will say, the stepped lawned gardens at the rear were beautiful and we kept Soya Sheep in the paddock at the end of the gardens. These belonged to the Woodwork teacher at Rydal where my younger brother and I were educated. They were so naughty. Constantly escaping and we catching them less often than not.

All in all, these are my memories of a life lived there in our teens, full of and felt sad having moved.
