1950s And 60s

A Memory of Llantwit Major.

My mother was born in Llantwit in 1928. Her parents, Jack and Katie Sutton kept the greengrocer’s shop next door to the Post Office in Wine Street. I was born in 1952 and although we left Llantwit eighteen months later, I have fond memories of visiting my grandparents. My parents bought a caravan on the beach in about 1967 and we spent weekends and summer holidays there for several years. My mother is 90now and spends lots of time talking about he childhood and looking at hundreds of photos. We too visit Wine Street coffee shop and sometimes chat with Mary Punter.

I was born at Orchard House in Boverton in 1945. We moved to Stallcourt Avenue, Llantwit Major two or three years later. I remember Viv Sutton in the Greengrocers Wine Street. The premises is currently an accountants office.
The Angel Cafe later became the Post Office and its former little place was taken by Padfield and Brown as a DIY store. These days it is a private dwelling. I would be pleased to answer any questions you may have about the old place.
