More about this scene
Stile House is typical of the smarter villas of Regency Lyme. It takes its name from the adjacent Stile Path through the bushes (top left) from Pound Street to the Cobb. It was the home in Victorian times of Frank Morris. Then it became a hotel, trading as Stile House Pension, run by Ernest James Leeming. The picture looks westwards and shows semi-circular rooms with a flat roof at the north-east corner. Beyond are Buena Vista (right) and Belmont (top).
