Lyme Regis, The Beach And Harbour c.1955

More about this scene
There is safe bathing for children at high tide, protected from the open sea and its waves, behind the North Wall of the harbour. The shot is southwards from Bay Cottage and the Royal Standard to the Cobb Warehouses (centre right). Lyme was at its busiest in the mid 1950s, as post-war austerity eased, and before airliners opened up new horizons and brought foreign holidays within reach of the masses.
