Ted's Tuckshop
A Memory of Mitcham.
Lovely reading memories of Mitcham! Born in 1950 lived in 33 Westmoreland Square, Pollard's Hill , vivid memories of Ted's pale blue tuckshop and my mum sending me to buy 6 fags and a packet of tea! Playing on the swings next to our block; hide & seek on warm summer evenings, the smell of newly-mown grass takes me back there, everytime (used to make rowing boats out of grass with my sister Anthea). Picnics on the common with Hilary Francis...my sister Susan going on a trip to Scotland with the Moss family who lived opposite us (yes! relatives of Stirling Moss!) who eventually emigrated to Canada. Mum working weekends as a waitress at weddings; the Mitcham Fair!! Moved to Phipps Bridge Estate in 1961 (to a house!!)...went to Pollard's Hill Secondary Modern... thanks to Mrs Quarman eventually did speak French!! So many lovely memories...Cheers Barbara Hindle (spindle)
