Moreton In Marsh, Manor House Hotel c.1955

More about this scene
Moreton was a market town for the woollen industry in centuries past, and it was also an important centre for the linen weaving industry and a coaching town in the days of horse-drawn travel. Its roots are much older, though, for it straddles the Roman Fosse Way, which cuts a course straight as a die from Cirencester through to Leicestershire. Buildings, most of them built of locally-quarried limestone, grew up along this road, and a number of former coaching inns can be seen to this day. The Manor House Hotel was built in c1545, and George VI visited during World War II.
