Happy Days Of Youth.

A Memory of Motherwell.

My first memories of Motherwell was living down the Daisy Park at 18 Braidhurst Street and watching the new housing scene being built opposite my house ,the old mill used provide a perfect brae for our bogies which consisted an old set of pram wheels I spent hours scooching down it at break neck speed no helmets or knee pads then.
Coville Park golf course was another hunting ground for the search of lost golf balls hopefully selling them to the players for pennies.
The Globe was another area to visit passing through the prefab village on my way to the viaduct railway bridge.
I left Braidhurst Street and moved to Linksveiw Road and attended Carfin School I remember the Queen passing on her Coranation tour and the pupils received a coranation badge , the local shopkeeper appeared in his war reserve uniform he was called Mr Mons or something similar.
My father at that time worked in the naval stores at Carfin and my brother and I using to love going to the parties that took place there.
Returning to live in Hope Street in Browns building opposite the Motherwell Times building and attending Muir Street school and then Motherwell Central.
I left school and worked at the Clyde Alloy then Lawson ‘s in Brandon Street was a member of the AFS stationed at Knowetop fire station.
Left Motherwell in 1964 and joined the London Fire Brigade now retired and living in London still have a brother and sister domicile in Motherwell.
