This image is a Reference Print: it has not been shown on our website before as it has not been optimised and therefore may not meet the quality standards we require for use in our normal product range. However, we understand that this image could be potentially important for genealogical, local history or architectural research and so we are showing it on the website for on-line research only. The photo may be available to buy, but needs to be checked and optimised before you can place an order.

Why are these different? All 300,000 photographs in The Frith Collection have been scanned, but as the photos were taken over a 110 year period on a wide range of glass & film negatives, using different photographic processes, every image has to be checked and optimised, before we make a print for a customer.

A Selection of Memories from Nazeing

For many years now, we've been inviting visitors to our website to add their own memories to share their experiences of life as it was, prompted by the photographs in our archive. Here are some from Nazeing

Sparked a Memory for you?

If this has sparked a memory, why not share it here?

I lived at Long Green where my father was a shepherd at St Lawrence Farm. I went to Bumbles Green Primary School where Mr & Mrs Hills lived in the schoolhouse. At that time Mr Brent had the grocery shop, the Welch brothers the garage and the Old Post Office at the top of Nazeing Common was still open. There was also a little sweet shop. My name is Neil Williamson. I lived at 5 Barnfield Close, Hoe Lane from when I was born in 1950 until I emigrated to Australia in 1965. I attended Nazeing Primary School from 1955 (Bumbles Green) until 1961. I then went to Netteswell High School in Harlow from 1961 until 1965. I remember in the early 1960's - Cliff Richard lived at the top of Nazeing in a huge house called "Rookwood"- it wasn't far from Nazeing Church. As a boy I played with my mates in the old WW2 gun turrets on Nazeing Common.

We used to cycle from Chingford, where we lived at the time. They had a son called Bill and were called Rose and Bill. Wonder if anyone remembers them? I can't remember the surname tho, but think they lived on Pecks Hill. I now live in Blackpool, so a bit ...see more
This is an approximate date, my brother was placed in a boarding school when he was very young. We would travel there at weekends. The pond was very near the big white building he was staying in.
