Although many of the buildings are today little changed from those shown here, the lack of pavements and tarmac on the street gives it a vastly different appearance. The building occupied by Routley's Stores is Poole House, once the home of Thomas Poole. After inheriting his father's tannery business, he became literary patron to his friend Samuel Taylor Coleridge.
