Happy Memories
A Memory of New Edlington.
I was born in 1943 at number 9 Dukes Crescent, Edlington. In 1953 my family moved to 33 Clark Avenue, Hill Top. This was the year I was 11 yrs old and I went to Hill Top School for girls. Most of my mother's siblings also lived at Hill Top; 2 of her sisters lived at numbers 38 and 40 Tait Avenue, my maternal grandparents lived at 15 Dukes Crescent. I loved school and I have many happy memories of my years there. I particularly enjoyed walking around old Edlington with the beautiful old St Peter's church where my parents were married in 1936; shortly afterwards it was closed due to subsidance. I left school in 1958 aged 15 yrs, shortly afterwards my family left Edlington and settled in Rotherham, where I married and raised two sons, and where I still live. I visit Edlington cemetery where my parents are buried, and see relatives who still live there. Rotherham is my home, but I do and always will retain my memories of my childhood spent in Edlington.
