Sparking A Memory Of Rnwt Station New Waltham

A Memory of New Waltham.

I was based here in 1972, as a very young RN Radio Engineer. Antony’s memory sparke a few of my own. Long nights in the transmission hall monitoring an old B&W TV to make sure we weren’t interfering with Coronation Street!
Changing over antennas for the broadcast antennas (Health and Safety back then meant that if you survived then it was obviously safe!).
I don’t think anyone stationed there lived in New Waltham (except the station commander and one of the married ratings). I was billeted in a B&B in Cleethorpes (seaview street) with a much older and wiser shipmate ( he must have been 20 at the time!).

Sad that everything has gone, except the Married Quarters; I never got to see the place again before it was demolished. I had no photo’s of my own (it was a ‘secret’ base but a bit difficult to hide).

Before my parents divorced, we lived here, dad was an RN Radio Engineer. This would have been 1956/57. How can I find out more? Thanks.
