This Pennine hill village had a chapel in 1216. It became a flourishing handloom weaving village - in all there were about 400 looms, and some villagers coupled weaving with farming - but when machines supplanted their skills, there was much suffering. There are two inns: the Lamb Inn (left) on the crest of the hill, and the second next to the café (right).
