More about this scene
The Tone is one of several rivers draining these lowlands, and the one that gave Taunton its name. Much of the area was under water when King Alfred used the marshlands as a base for guerrilla operations against the Danes. Today the marshlands are the more peaceful haunt of the fisherman and birdwatcher.
