Land Mine
A Memory of North End.
Hello, my dad told me about that landmine and when he had to carry his little brother, Owen, downstairs when a bomb went off nearby. The family were the Ansons. Mother, Violet, dad, Lawrence Augustus and by the outset of war, sons Leslie, Robin, Alec and Owen.
They all sang in the choir and Robin was the soloist. He sang at Elloughton, also Beverly and South Cave Church. Violet and Lawrence lived at Arnold House in North Cave then moved to Hotham to live just outside the gates. Colonel Clitheroe used to turn up in his RR silver ghost with many dogs; a wonderful man. My dad, Robin, signed up in 1943 (he lied about his age) and left the area. He met my mother having a drink in the Fox and Coney in South Cave in 1944, whilst home on leave. Did you know the Ansons? I am on genes reunited and have found a few people from the family who went off to Hull and thereabouts. Kate Anson.
