I Think This Should Be Zouch Cottages

A Memory of North Tidworth.

I was born at 601 Zouch cottages (which may possibly be in this photograph) in 1955, the address was changed later to 46, Nepal Road, I think probably in about 1960 and my Nan and Aunt lived at 8, Nepal Road down the hill. I funnily enough also remember Barbara Harris (lovely redheaded girl if I remember correctly who lived half way between my house and my Nan's) and I certainly have memories of sliding down the steep banks that surrounded the football pitch above the barracks - so Linda Pratt and me may have shared a tray. We moved from Tidworth in 1965.

I too slid down the football pitch steep banks when the weather was snowy/icy. We lived in Zouch Avenue and had to go that way to the Garrison School. Only about 35 kids there when I went there during the end bit of WW2 - five teachers we had - plus a headmistress which made me believe that when I came to London (aged 10 years) to live all the headmistress did was to hand out the San Izal toilet rolls (ugh). Idyllic childhood though. Still love Americans to this day. They were in the barracks all that time. Good to us kids with end of term parties etc. South London was so different for me. Joan Norman
When I was a baby in 1936 we moved into 697 Zouch Cottages (now 45 Nepaul Road) only about a couple of years after it was built. I still own the house, having inherited from my brother, Terry. He was able to purchase t when the houses were sold by the Ministry of Defence
