Great Days On In Northolt

A Memory of Northolt.

I have great memories of my days growing up in northolt. From early 60 s in bengarth rd. Walking to Gifford school through the alley and horse fields. Later taking my brother Neil to the infants there. Rushing back home. First one at the crossing at church rd would be awarded with a sweet from the lolly pop man. ( they get arrested for that now). I went on to go to Vincent. Brother to Walford a few years later. Many fights took place between the schools when the Vincent took on the Walford. All harmless stuff. A few kicking s and duffing ups ha ha. Evening mostly spent hanging around that horrible Chinese take away by the clock on the village green eating the chips out of brown paper bags after having been to the oriel for a disco or to watch a film like. Soldier blue. Mandingo or clockwork orange ( later going on to copy the dress code of the delinquents in this one). Bib and brace. And of course my 8 hole ox blood DM s. Great memories and still very vivid. I remember most of the named. Esp Mr burrige. You was in my year. I was 4a3. 5a3. You I recall was in a1. With murrey Scott who was my next door neighbour in bengarth. Still go to northolt as still relatively local. And being from northolt gotta be a superhooper season ticket holder. I let you guess. But can be contacted on nigelist46@gmail.com. love to here your memories of a great time we had growing up in what after all was nt that rough

I lived in a flat over the butchers in Shadwell Drive and went to Gifford School on its opening day the headmaster was Mr Mguire in about 1950 and played football with my mates in Gifford Woods. Made the mistake of passing the scholarship and went to Drayton Manor Grammar School and my snob of a mother banned me from playing with my old mates who went to Stanhope secondry modern. Happy days on that old council estate.
You must remember Jones the sweet shop.
