More about this scene

Witton Street is now completely pedestrianised, with a number of the buildings shown here totally restyled. Bratt & Evans, on the right, still survives, although it is now just known as Bratt's. The ground floor shop windows have long since been completely modernised. Apart from Bratt's, most of the shops along the street today are those familiar names found in every high street in the country.

I was born in Sandiway but during my primary and secondary school days we would go to Northwich which I remember from the late fifties and when all the old shops, such as Joe Allman's cottage and Eachus etc were all doing a good trade, Northwich has many happy memories for me. Lookers Northwich
Love this view of the garage from the park. My late father was Managing Director here for nearly 30 years, starting 1966. You date this 65, but the Ford Escort to the left suggests early 68. Brings back so many memories. Thank you for the dating clarification. Our database will be updated. Ed

Technical Drawing With Mr Shaw
I recall Mr Harry Shaw and his car. He was a philosopher and social commentator as much as a teacher. He taught me much more about life than he did about technical drawing. In fact, my class always tried to get him to expound on some contemporary social topic. Once he got going, we knew that we would do no more that lesson than draw the name and title box on the bottom right-hand corner of the paper. ...see more

School Visits
Once a year all the pupils of Sir John Deane's walked over to Witton Church for a Founders' Day Service. I think we were all pretty over-awed by the building and we certainly sang our hearts out. We were all encouraged to sing by Mr Horrocks, an enlightened music teacher who was also organist at the church. I remember being slightly amused to see him looking so important in his white organist's cassock !

Genealogy & Research Images

Despite over 20 years’ work on the archive, these scans have still not been individually checked and may prove to be damaged, faded, or not of sufficient quality to ever be offered in our full product range. However, if you would particularly like to buy one of these please get in touch quoting the Frith negative number,(s) the town name and size of print you would like to buy. On receipt of your enquiry our archivist will check the scan and advise you if the quality is good enough.

What is an Album?

An album is a way to save a selection of Frith photos, maps and memories that are of interest to you.

Creating an Album enables you to make short lists and then make a final selection from the album. In particular it makes ordering things like calendars much easier - simply create an Album of the 12 photos you like and then use the Album when placng your order - our order process will give you this option.

You can create as many Albums as you want, so perhaps make one for your hometown, where you live now, where your parents live now etc.
