An Annual Visit To The Grass Verge Near Oakhanger Farm
A Memory of Oakhanger.
As a child in the 60s/70s I would often travel with my parents in the car from Oakhanger towards Bordon to help my parents tend their allotment at Cranes. We would often pass an elderly couple who had set up their tent on the grass verge near the NATO site turning and the first corner of the S bend on the road from Bordon near Oakhanger Farm. In those days we called them Tramps. Whatever the terminology used they were an itinerant travelling husband and wife who would visit the village annually, looking for odd jobs they could do in the village. They would always camp at the same spot on the grass verge.
