More about this scene
After conversion from the Fancy Repository into a garage in 1914, during the Second World War and until 1949 London House (left) became a British Restaurant. It is now divided into three shops, variously sweets, bicycles, a baker's, a cleaner's, a hairdresser's and a boutique. Mr Chapple opened his garage further down the street in 1914 – note the petrol pumps on the pavement – and on either side are a barber's shop and a café advertising teas.
