More about this scene
The bold square brick tower was built onto a 13th-century base c1656 after an earlier tower had collapsed. The west doorway of the tower was remodelled in 1897 to mark Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee. The porch of the doorway on the south wall was removed about this time. Adjacent to it between the two windows are two pre-Reformation mass clocks; they are sundials, but their gnomons (the projecting part that casts the shad- ow) have long since disappeared. The brick and tile building on the right is known as the Pest House.
